Chin Up!

I was feeling a bit down yesterday (did anyone guess!)
I spent most of the day writing a report, so didn't really speak to anyone at work. The lesson here, I think, is that burying your head in work is not good for you, talking to people, even about nonsense like why does Internet company Rakuten want to buy a baseball team, is GOOD.

Chin up, as they say in jolly old England. Not to be confused with chin-chin up, which could get you in trouble in polite circles in Japan.

Dare an ignorant Gaijin ask what chin-chin up means? Or is that X Rated stuff?!!

I don't know Gary...Maybe a little "chin chin up" is just what the doctor ordered (wink wink, nudge nudge)!

Sheryl, I looked long and hard for a site with an explanation. Eventually I found this:

Chris, thank you for your 'Carry On/Benny Hill' style humour - just what I needed!

LOL! Oooh dear, OK.
Glad that one isn't lost in translation!
Thanks Gary, I feel more enlightened this morning ;o)

Thanks to Sheryl for asking the question. Any niceties of Japanese culture are always great to know - particularly this one. 'Withnail and I' and drinking with friends will be just that little bit more enjoyable and amusing (in a Finbar Saunders way (VIZ)

Hey!!! Now wait just a minute! I know how you Brits feel about Benny Hill, Gary, and I will not be stand idly by while I'm insulted! ;-)
Incidentally, he was a genius, but it just seems to have been in area where you lot have a collective blind spot in your sense of humour!
