As many of you will know, in Japan we do not celebrate Christmas. Instead, New Year is the big holiday, and all dutiful Japanese employees get a couple of hard-earned days off work.
Today was my first day back to work, after spending a pleasant few days changing nappies and reading with Angelie and rocking little babies back and forth.
There are a few ways you can easily tell that it is the first day back to work after a vacation:
-don't want to get up (could say this about most days, though)
-can't find laptop, company ID, mobile phone etc (as above)
-trains are delayed a few minutes, as people re-discover that all-important knack of jumping on just before the vice-like doors crush your arms
However, I think my post-New Year-haze has to be the best. It wasn't until I got to the station that I realised that I was not wearing matching shoes.
Yup. They are similar, but the left shoe was bought a year or so ago at Next in Japan, whereas the right shoe is made by Clark's, and was purchased in Ashford last year. Would you believe it...?
